Leaving Herceg-Novi we will pass charming settlements that surround the
spectacular Bay of Kotor. The tour continues through Risan, the oldest
town in Boka, dating back to the third century B.C. Home to great palaces
built with the finest Greek marble, Risan was the center of the Illyrian
state for craftsmen, seamen and tradesmen. Our first stop will be Perast,
a marvelous coastal town with stunning Renaissance and Baroque
architecture that showcases the luxurious and wealthy past of what is
now Boka’s most silent village.
We arrive next in Kotor, stopping to admire the medieval architecture and
monuments. Amid the town’s narrow streets and squares is the cathedral
of St. Tripun, one of the most recognizable symbols of Kotor. Traveling
south, we will continue to Ulcinj, where we will see the longest sandy
beach on the Adriatic Sea and the Valdanos cove with old olive trees in
the background. Ulcinj is rich with interesting restaurants, cafés, galleries
and hotels.
Driving back, we will make a brief stop at Sveti Stefan, a bustling town
with villas and apartments offering breathtaking views of the horizon
across the sea as well as relics from the area’s original inhabitants. Nearby
Budva is a metropolis of Montenegro tourism. The old town lies on a small
peninsula and offers a treasure chest of cultural heritage. Several wellknown buildings line the streets, including the Church of St. Trininty, St. Ivan, the Church of Our Lady and the Church of St. Sava. During the
summer months, Budva hosts a celebration of theater arts, with
numerous local and foreign plays. The town has various boutiques, cafés,
restaurants and galleries. A ferry ride across the bay shortens our return
to Herceg-Novi.
